How much time should it take to fill up a 1GB iPod Shuffle, using usb 2.0?

After fiddling about with my computer, I found that what I previously thought was usb 1.1, was usb 2.0 but without the drivers.

Now I've installed the drivers, I want to check whether I'm getting the faster speed.

What length of time should I be able to transfer 1GB of music to my iPod Shuffle?

USB 1.1 used to do 12 MB per second

USB 2.0 can do up to 480 MB/s

unfortunately, the ipod shuffle can only write data at a rate of 2MB/s. newer gen might be able to go to 3MB/s but thats it.

therefore, 1000/3 =333 seconds to transfer 1 GB

no matter how fast your USB, your ipod can only store the received information at 2 or 3 Mb per second. so it will take you around the same time.

Sir you speak in tongues! have you been at that south American gin again? In answer to your question though I suggest you go on the Interwebotron and get some information from the Robot-otrons that run it. Tip top.

where can you get an ipod shuffle 1gb for a good reasonable price in chennai?

whta is the most reasonable price that you can pay for it in chennai?

I'm getting one for $30!

Craigslist.com

Is awesome for like....ANYTHING!
You could get anything you want on that site, and for a good price too. :)

you can shop online on
ebay.com

The shuffle is over rated check out the mp4's at http://www.mp4direct.org use the mp4 link. I call them the iPod shuffle killer. They deliver to all countries I got mine in Australia in 4 days!!

Can i play music whilst simultaneously charging my 1st gen ipod shuffle 1GB?

If not... can you suggest a better solution for charging an MP3 player and playing its music at the same time, to be used 24/7 for the 'on-hold' music for a business telephone line???

yes you can charge and play at the same time.

yes you can charge and play at the same time.
:)

I just got a 1GB iPod Shuffle, and I don't know how to add songs?

Because I've had iPods before, I already have songs in the library. Since the Shuffle is only 1GB, does that mean I have to delete songs from iTunes to get it to put the songs on?

Are the little checks next to the songs there to determine whether or not to add it to the iPod? And finally, how do I get it to add them?

Thanks, please help.

And I'm an idiot, so simple talk helps.

You aren't an idiot. You probably just didn't pick up the manual. Create a folder and stick up to 1GB of the songs you want in it. Connect the iPod to the computer. In itunes, once its connected, click on the music tab if its not already checked and check the folder you just made. Click apply or sync at the bottom (can't remember which one, I am going off the top of my head). BINGO.

u jus need itunes( free to use) and drag the songs from limewire or any other library to the itunes..then hook up ur cord n it should sync on its own

Is the ipod shuffle 1gb very breakable?

I was thinking about buying my son a shuffle and since he's only 7, I didn't want to pay too much and I wanted to stick with something to work w/ my itunes. But I was wondering if the newer shuffles(the clip ones) are very breakable.

I don't think it is too breakable. I suppose it depends on the child. My niece is 7 and has had one since Christmas. Her mom put it into a special carrying case for her and also got an extended warranty on it. It is working fine.
Just be careful of the washing machine.

well see they can be to a point and if you want to go the cheap way out you can just use one that are not ipods just get the mp3s because i have itunes and my friend uses an mp3 with itunes it works so if you need to check with the store and ask them what your trying to find ok!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No they are quiet sturdy. But if you want something without itunes(drag and drop), you can go for zen stone(go to link). It is a similar product(in fact better looking) and has a screen

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that the iPod Shuffles have hard drives inside of them. If an iPod with a hard drive is dropped, it'll most likely break. The iPod Touch, however, uses a flash drive, which is more durable than a hard drive.

If you worry bout your son breaking an iPod, I'd say spend a bit more money and go for the iPod Touch. Even though it costs quite a bit more, it may be worth it.

Maybe just get him a standard MP3 player, you can get 1-5gb ones pretty cheap., and they look real nice most of the time too :)

how many songs can a 1GB ipod shuffle hold?

the new ipod shuffle!

how many songs can it hold?

on average 250 as it depends on how big the songs are =]

Have I Made A Mistake Buying the Ipod Shuffle 1GB Instead Of 2GB?

I do like music but I thought 500 songs was a bit too many songs, but should I have brought the 2GB anyway? Because the 2GB is only £45 compared to the £32 for the 1GB so technically the 2GB is far better value for money but if I don't need 500 song capacity was it a mistake to buy the 1GB?

Apart from shuffles aren't good value full stop, yes you should have got 2GB because:
1 They usually exaggerate the size. It's usually "approximately" 1GB and
2 For most good quality songs, 500 takes more room than 1GB. They usually exaggerate that too. I find it's more like 150 to 200.

I find Samsung, Panasonic, Phillips and Wharfedale players are better value.
Hope that helps

what is the current price of an apple iPod shuffle 1GB?

what is the current price of an apple iPod shuffle 1GB ?
(showroom and where?)

iam going to singapore soon and its going to be my first time there i plan to purchase a iPod shufle 1gb ? i need to know how much is it more or less so i can a lot my finances and budget for my ipod. thanks :-)

Hi everyone, I have recently purchased an Ipod shuffle.1Gb, its fabulous, Im familar with how to upload music?

from my own library, however, is it compulsary I download the Itunes..if so, can someone please tell me why, as it seems I have all my tunes on my library, Thanks.

You dont need to purchase iTunes' music you can upload any music. But you do need the program iTunes to upload the songs. Apple Tunes is specially made for Apple iPod as iPod is specially made to work only with iTunes. No other program will be able to sync with your iPod.

However you can import music from folders into iTunes and then sync it but the songs/movies etc will not be permanently stored on iTunes, it's more of a shortcut to the original file so dont delete your songs!

can the battery of the newest ipod shuffle 1gb be replaced with another one?

if it can't be replaced, when the batteries don't work any longer, should it be thrown?
michael john j, i dont get wat u mean.
but, thank you for answering!
(although that didnt help one bit)

most likely no...but i guess there are "not-so-legal" service centers out there that can do so...

1GB ipod shuffle review

a short video about the amazing 1GB iPod shuffle

ESOL School uses iPods to increase reading fluency Savannah Morning News

Carrie Zimmer is always looking to increase the use of technology among her students, which is important with the direction the educational and business world is going.

And she is forever searching for ways to increase their fluency in the English language as well as their reading skills.

When an opportunity to draft a grant for twenty iPods came about, she went to work.

May Howard Elementary is an ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) school, where a large portion of the population come from non-English speaking homes, and many of the students are struggling to learn the language.

Zimmer, the school's technology teacher, saw a way in which iPods could help not only the students but also their parents to acquire a better understanding of the language. Helping the parents helps the student with reading assignments and homework.

The plan is to have teachers and fifth-graders record books on the devices so first- and second-grade students can take them home to learn from and share with their family.

"To start, I'll be recording books being read aloud by teachers and eventually fifth-grade EIP (Early Intervention Program) students," Zimmer said. "I'm hoping that the older students who are doing the recording will build their fluency as they read aloud."

The iPods were purchased by way of grant, which is funded by the Savannah Fund for Excellence in Public Education.

"The grant is officially titled 'Inspiring with iPods,' Zimmer said. "I was searching for a way that could get different technologies into the school, iPods for one. So I wrote this grant to focus on our ELL (English Language Learner) and EIP populations and received money to purchase 20 iPod shuffles and microphones for recording."

The Savannah Fund for Excellence in Public Education, as per the Web site is, "an effort to encourage and reward creativity and innovation in the learning process, the Excellence Fund will award grants to eligible Savannah-Chatham Public School System teachers for the 2009-2010 academic year to fund classroom projects in grades K-12 which are designed to achieve student success."

Zimmer wrote a grant and was awarded the funds to purchase the equipment.

Once all of the books are recorded onto the iPods, Zimmer hopes to see some successes in her endeavors.

"Once the books are recorded, first- and second-grade EIP and ELL students will be taught how to use the iPod shuffle, and then be able to take an iPod home, along with copies of the books recorded on them. This way, they will be able to read independently even if they don't have a parent who is able to read with them. We know this is the case for some students whose parents do not speak fluent English, and, with busy schedules of all parents, more and more students could use this additional support. I hope that by targeting students in need of additional support their motivation and reading abilities will increase."

The Savannah Fund for Excellence in Public Education has had far-reaching results and has funded many programs across the district.

With the fiscal budget so tight, this grant comes as a relief for district school budgets.

"As a teacher, we are often forced to find creative ways to obtain the supplies we'd like to have in our classrooms. We all know that teachers use their own money to get many of these things, but grants are certainly one way that financial restraints can be overcome," Zimmer said. "I would never have been able to purchase these iPods without receiving this grant. Kids are so interested in technology that bringing the iPods into reading is sure to inspire motivation."

44 schools involved in exercise challenge

Nearly 3,400 fifth-graders from 44 Tucson schools are taking part in the Walk On! Challenge.

The challenge is a monthlong effort to get kids moving for an hour a day for the month of February.

Students can count any physical activity toward their daily goal, including running, walking, swimming, playing tag or any sports activity.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona designed the program in 2006 to address the staggering level of childhood obesity in Arizona. One-third of all children in the state are classified as either overweight or obese, similar to national statistics.

Students who complete the challenge goal of 1,680 minutes are entered into a drawing for one of 40 iPod Shuffles and one of five Wii gaming systems.

Teachers who complete the challenge are eligible to apply for one of five $5,000 grants from the insurance company.

Pantano High principal gets national honor

Pantano High School Principal Monica Wright has been named Administrator of the Year by the Reaching At-Promise Students Association.

The association is a national organization for educators who work with students who fall behind.

Pantano High School is an alternative school in the Vail School District. In December, more than 50 students graduated from the school - compared with 12 students who graduated the year before Wright was hired in the fall of 2007.

"Monica's ability to connect with students and encourage them is truly amazing," Vail Superintendent Calvin Baker said. "It is a gift she delivers with countless hours of hard work."

The iPod touch: Still a category of one BetaNews
On second glance, it makes me wonder why Applephiles and, more critically, consumers, continue to give the iPod touch short shrift.

The real star of the show

If anything, the so-called "iPhone without a phone" (and camera, and GPS, and so on) is the dark horse in Apple's mobile strategy, a carrier-free alternative for folks who either hate AT&T, really like their current carrier, or think the sun rises and sets over their existing mobile phone or smartphone. Whatever drives someone to choose a phoneless iPhone, the industry's failure to deliver anything to counter this class of device is little short of staggering. Apple would like to thank its competitors for giving it yet another free ride.

By the numbers, the touch is dwarfed by its iPhone big brother. Apple's shipped over 42 million iPhones compared to only 20 million iPod touch devices. Beyond the numbers, however, Apple has succeeded in reaching an audience that might otherwise not buy into its admittedly our-way-or-no-way smartphone mentality. For potential Apple fans who, for example, balk at the price of the company's laptops or simply want to see what all the fuss is about, a sub-$200 pocketable device gives them at least a taste of the cult-like experience without the sticker shock.

Apple's gateway drug

The connection between the touch and its MacBook and MacBook Pro laptop cousins isn't as ridiculous as it sounds at first blush. While a mobile device that can be bought almost on impulse obviously doesn't compete against a full-on laptop, the psychology of Apple's pricing structure makes it easier for budget-starved consumers to buy into the Apple universe. The iPod touch, then, is something of a gateway drug for the wannabe. This kind of thinking worked for Apple once before, when it introduced the iPod Shuffle as an entry-level alternative for folks who coveted the then-flagship hard drive-based iPod but didn't fancy its then-over-$400 price tag.

Of course, the world has moved on since the first Shuffle hit the market, and basic music players have morphed into full-featured devices. Yet over two years after the first-generation iPod touch hit retail shelves, it remains a category of one. Sure, Dell showed an Android-based slate-like device at CES that looks suspiciously like a phoneless touch clone. And a previously unheard of outfit called Giinii showed something called the Movit Mini at last year's CES before promptly disappearing back into the obscurity from which it came. But while competitors large and small continue to spin their wheels in bringing non-carrier offshoots of existing handsets to market, Apple cleans up with 20 million (and counting) sales to consumers who otherwise weren't looking for a phone.

History repeats itself

The iPad benefits from this two-stage strategy. Its 3G and Wi-Fi-only models repeat the iPhone/iPod touch product hierarchy, albeit without the messy split branding. Am I the only one shrugging my shoulders wondering why other platforms haven't gotten the message just yet? Even though touch sales numbers total less than half of the iPhone, a non-3G alternative grows the user base and increases growth potential for the combined application ecosystem.

Apple's App Store doesn't care if you've got an iPhone or an iPod touch. Developers, on the other hand, like the near-50% boost in audience size thanks to the presence of the Wi-Fi-only device in the lineup, an incentive that makes some of the other indignities -- like a sometimes-questionable app approval process, and a revenue split that trails competing platforms -- somewhat easier to swallow.

Pay once, reap twice

For its part, Apple's iPod touch customers represent a major return on its original investment in the platform. By extending what it spent on iPhone research and development to an ostensibly identical product, the company built a template for mobile handset development that should have become an industry standard. No one else got the message, though, because while Apple repeats the process with the iPad, Google remains stuck firmly in neutral in getting 3G-less Android out the door. Other mobile vendors may as well be in a different universe.

I realize I'm probably out of step focusing on the now-dowdy-looking touch when everyone else has eyes only for the iPad. Indeed, when Stephen Colbert substituted Apple's new big baby for the traditional envelope for his presentation stint on last night's Grammy Awards, he merely reinforced our willingness to have the pop culture agenda hijacked, repeatedly, by one company...along with our naivete in simply going along for the marketing-magic ride. It isn't about the best device for the job anymore. Instead, it's about the one that garners the most buzz. Right now.

Practically speaking, then, Mr. Colbert would have been far better off with a touch, because his efforts to get his daughter's approval as he waved the 10-inch device around the stage only underscored why these things aren't the answer for everybody. Of course, that wouldn't have been anywhere near as headline-worthy. Because the iPad costs a lot more than a touch. And when you're looking for new-to-the-fold customers with a bit of extra cash in their wallets, a $200 price of entry remains a far more compelling driver of long-term subscriber growth than a device that starts at $499.

Sometimes, though, the solutions that make the most sense for most folks may not be the newer, sexier ones that garner higher transaction prices (and profits) for their makers. Which is why I'll be buying a touch real soon, before Apple figures it out and discontinues the line altogether in favor of the iPad.

As an iPod Touch owner for the past 2 years...I agree that the Touch is about as close to perfect device for those on the go as there is... As the owner of the Touch...I am still seriously considering buying the iPad when it comes out...simply because with the additions of iWork and a few other goodies that make this an even more practical device to own I believe there will be enough good reasons to ADD it to my arsenal of portable devices. Note I sad "add", as I still think the Touch is the way to go for daily walking-around use. I will not buy into the AT&T 3g plan as first, I am a Verizon Business employee and don't want to support "the enemy". But even more importantly I believe the Verizon Wireless "MiFi" device to be the perfect solution for connectivity, as the cost is only slightly higher than the monthly unlimited AT&T charge and with the MiFi you get a LOT more value in that you can also connect another 4 devices to it while on the road.
