What is the best electronic guitar tuner for me?

I am a beginner guitar player with no experience and I know I need to tune my acoustic guitar. I've tried to do it by ear and with a pitch pipe but with no luck. What do you think is the best tuner for me?

I'm prejudiced, but I love Korg tuners.

Practically indestructible...I've dropped mine on concrete..stepped on it...had beer spilled all over it, and the thing just will not stop working...and now it's approaching 30 years old!

The Korg GA-30 is about $15 at Musicians Friend, or Guitar Center, but I prefer the CA-30, ($20) as it tunes a wide variety of instruments, and you might appreciate having this extra capability?

Not to knock them, because they're a great company, but I have good friends who have had problems with Boss tuners.

I need a good guitar electric tuner for play rock to heavy metal songs?

I am a newbie and i know i cant tune by ear. So please any recommendations for a good easy to use electric guitar tuner. Please provide the make and model number and the price. Thanks in advance!

There is the Korg CA - 30 tuner. It works fine and is pretty cheap and durable. All you do is just plug into it, press the red button, and tune. It's Great.

Boss TU-2 tuner is awesome. I use it myself.

you tube type in the tuning you want in the search box and it goves you the pitches that you want for all of the strings.

Where can I find an online guitar tuner, that lets me plug my guitar into the computer, and tune it that way?

I always use an online guitar tuner on some website that just plays an audio of each string, but it's so much harder. I want to plug my guitar into my computer and tune it that way, so it's exact. Any help?

You know they sell tuners for guitars at any music store that you don't need to plug into a computer. They go from 15 to 100 dollars. They have interfaces that can help you plug into a comp for more. Check out musiciansfreind.com

there's a lot of "tuners" online that'll play a note, then you can match it by ear. the best way is to hit the note the same time it plays a note, and if you're close but hear beats (the little wah-oo-wah-oo-wah), however many you hear per second is how many hertz your note is away from the real note.

if that sounds too much for you right now, you'd want to download a program if you want to use your computer as a tuner. i know garage band (mac) can do it, but i don't know of any windows programs with that feature (a real shame, since macs suck)

how do i use my ibanez automatic guitar tuner?

so 3 years back i bought an acoustic guitar and it was a starter kit so it came with everything....im good at guitar now..and ive had it for 3 years and i stil have no idea how to use the automatic tuner....i have to take it to a store or a friend to have them tune it and i dont always have access to a piano...can someone explain thuroghly how to use it?

They work by sound, and should have a center marking to show you the string is in tune. The tuner should be placed close to the guitar as you tune each string. I don't use that particular brand, but if it's electronic, check the battery first. I'm also sure it came with instructions. If all else fails, next time you take your guitar to have it tuned, take the tuner with you. I'm sure someone could explain it to you.
Here's a tuner you don't have to figure out. Just make sure your volume is on.
http://www.8notes.com/guitar_tuner/

Make sure the battery is fresh.

Place the tuner close to your guitar.

Some tuners require you to select the string you are tuning.

Pick the first string and wait for the reading.

Adjust the tuner if necessary, you will get the hang of which way the tuner is telling you to go because if you turn it the wrong way you will notice in the tuner, and hear it.

Repeat with the other strings. Standard tuning (E Standard) is from the top string down (6-1) EADGBe, but you can use any tuning you like.

Is there a guitar tuner where you can select different tunings?

I'm in need of an affordable guitar tuner where you can select different tunes, like standard, half-step down, half-step up, drop C, etc.
Does anyone know any tuner like that?
Thanks.

Well all a guitar tuner does is tell you what note you're playing, so you need to know what the strings need to be tuned to in the tuning you want.

hey dude~

guitar tuner only helps you know what the sound or the tune is being produced and so you can think of what the next tune should be. It doesn't tell what the next tune should be.

The two previous answers are entirely correct.
You need to know what notes make up what tuning.
But here are a few tunings you can experiment with.
Low to high:
Standard/ E - A - D - G - B - E
Fourths/ D - G - C - F - Bb - Eb
(each string is a 4th up)
Open G/ D - G - D - G - B - D
Open D / D - A - D - F# - A - D
The last two are good for slide work.

What kind of guitar tuner should I get?

I want to be able to tune my guitar in other than standard tuning. What kind of tuner should I buy so I could do tunes like Eb half step down and so on? Some links would be helpful also, thanks.

Get a chromatic tuner. You can either get it in pedal form or in a handheld form. Either will work, but its just a matter of personal preference.

Is an Electronic chromatic tuner the same as a guitar tuner?

Is an Electronic chromatic tuner the same as a guitar tuner?
I need help because i have a guitar tuner but need a electric chromatic tuner!!!

I tuned my guitar using an electric tuner, but it still does not sound right when I strum.?

I tried tuning my acoustic guitar using an eletric guitar tuner. It says each note is right on, but when I strum them all open I get a very harsh sound. Can any one tell me what is wrong?

If you are tuning to standard and then strumming all open, it will sound like crap. You are not forming any chords. Play a chord and see what it sounds like.

What is a good pitch to set my guitar tuner to?

I have an electro-acoustic guitar and a digital tuner. I've always wondered what's up with the "pitch" on my tuner. It can be changed from anywhere from 435-446. What is the best "in between" pitch that isn't too high or low. Thanks (:

Typically, the number is 440. I imagine it can be moved up or down slightly depending on what the rest of the instruments you're playing with sound like.

need help picking out guitar tuner for boyfriend?

I want to get my boyfriend a guitar tuner for his birthday, but I don't know where to start. He has an acoustic guitar and has been mentioning that he should get one for a long time. I want to get him a tuner that isn't too expensive, but will also last and one that he will like. Any help would be appreciated. My budget is $25 to $75.

A decent tuner should go for $20-30. Call a local music shop and ask. Quartz is the best for the money.

featuring gieson interactive i just put up this video because i didn't have a tuner at the time. its mainly for my personal use.

Guitar legend dies at age 38 Fredericksburg.com
RELATED: BLOG: Remembering Jack Rose \

BY DAVE SMALLEY

He was known across the world as a brilliant guitar player who merged different musical traditions to create a truly original sound.

But Jack Rose, a Fredericksburg native who passed away Dec. 5 after an apparent heart attack at age 38, was known in this region first and foremost as a family member, a friend--and, of course, a passionate musician.

"He just had a lot of integrity," said Karl Steinbach, one of Rose's longtime friends and a former band mate. "There was no mall culture in his life."

Rose was born in Richmond and raised in Fredericksburg, before moving back to Richmond and ultimately to Philadelphia, where his solo career took off.

He was gaining a worldwide audience at the time of his death, pioneering an intricate acoustic guitar sound that has been labeled everything from neo-Appalachian to modern folk.

Rose's mother, Paula, is a well-known artist who owns P. Rose Gallery in downtown Fredericksburg.

Local residents who watched him grow up, and saw him play in his early years in the band Naked Lunch, have no shortage of fond memories.

"He was more than just a musician--he was an artist," said Lowell Sale, a longtime friend who played in Naked Lunch with Rose. "He was doing what he was put on earth to do.

"In a word, 'devotion' is what separated him from other musicians. He was obsessed with integrity--hated to burn a CD, refused to use an electronic tuner. But he was a really happy, friendly person, too."

Local music teacher Beth Jenkins was one of the original owners of Apple Music and noticed Rose's talents even when he was 10 years old and coming by for his guitar lessons.

"I would stop and listen" when Rose was there, she said. "It was amazing to see such soulfulness."

Rose played electric guitar in the bands Naked Lunch, Fred Vegas and Pelt, among others, before moving to acoustic guitars exclusively in his final musical period.

His last concert in the region was at the Fredericksburg Athenaeum last June, a sold-out show that garnered serious acclaim by concert-goers.

"It was very serene and almost Zen-like," recalled local artist Cathy Herndon, another longtime family friend. "Everybody was totally focused on him. He put you in another world."

Rose's passing was mourned in music blogs and chat boards around the world. The New York Times reported on his death.

"I'm proud of him," said Steinbach. "He left us early, but accomplished a lot."

The funeral will be held today in Bala Cynwyd, outside Philadelphia. Rose is survived by his wife, Laurie Sutherland, his parents, Paula and John Rose, and a brother, Matthew.

Gibson Guitar, Guitar Center and Toadies Unleash the Dusk Tiger, the Newest ... Gibson

San Antonio, Texas — December 1, 2009 — Gibson Guitar, the world’s premier musical instrument maker and leader in music technology, in partnership with Guitar Center, are offering a rare opportunity to see first-hand the incredible attributes of the newest breed of electric guitar, the Gibson Dusk Tiger , demonstrated by Texas-based rock band the Toadies. Only 200 retail sites world-wide have access to sell this guitar, with only 1,000 units being produced, making the Dusk Tiger a rare commodity for guitar players. Gibson and Guitar Center will also be giving away a Gibson guitar signed by the Toadies! Don’t miss out on this special event this Friday, December 4th.

WHO: Gibson Guitar and Guitar Center San Antonio are unleashing the newest breed of electric guitar, the Dusk Tiger, with Texas-based rock band and Gibson endorsees the Toadies.

WHAT: Gibson Guitar will host a demonstration, in partnership with Guitar Center San Antonio, of the world’s most exciting and revolutionary guitar, the Dusk Tiger. Texas rock sensations the Toadies will be on-hand at Guitar Center to demonstrate the astounding capabilities of the Dusk Tiger and provide a question and answer session.

WHERE: Guitar Center San Antonio

The third generation of Gibson Robot Technologies will be introduced on December 7th, 2009 at only 200 retail sites worldwide. There will be a limited run of only 1000 units produced. There will be 200 store sites – 100 in the USA and 100 in international markets. Each store will receive 5 units. No more will be manufactured or sold.

Last year Gibson introduced the Dark Fire guitar, which followed the first generation Robot Guitar. This single model was hugely successful, with most stores worldwide selling out of the instrument in one day with a worldwide stock out in two days.

The Dark Fire’s ambitious level of innovation, however, caused enormous problems in manufacturing and some issues making it to the field. Gibson stopped producing the Dark Fire after approximately 100 reached consumers and initiated a complete redesign. The great difficulty of this very high-tech guitar has only allowed about 500 units to be made in 2009 with a possibility of 1000 more being shipped by the end of the year. Virtually all of these instruments are sold, and Gibson does not intend to produce this model again.

The Dark Fire introduced three significant innovations, all of which are incorporated into the Dusk Tiger:

The Robot 2 tuning system, which increased both the accuracy and speed of auto tuning. Chameleon Tone Technology, which allowed the guitar to achieve all the classic guitar tones, with 7 classic tones immediately available. The first guitar that came as a complete system to harness the power of a computer recording environment, as well as computerized live settings.

Throughout the year Gibson’s R&D labs have been working on taking the technology introduced in the Dark Fire instruments to an entirely new level of performance and ease of use The Dusk Tiger guitar will have all three of the above features in a newly enhanced version at a more affordable price!

Enormous capability and options often come at the price of having to learn how to use the many features. Gibson’s breakthrough Dark Fire introduced a full color matrix Master Control Knob to allow the player to harness the power with guitar-like movements. The guitar also enhanced the pickup toggle switch to serve as a blend control allowing the mixing of a piezo pickup with the traditional pickups. These controls allowed the player dozens of unique sounds as well as many traditional sounds, all in pure high definition analog.

MAKE IT SIMPLE – NEW EASE OF USE The Dusk Tiger takes this control scheme and makes it even easier and more intuitive to use while adding more tones and tunings.

An additional bank of tuning presents An additional bank of tone presets

The Dusk Tiger will eliminate the break out box. When not using the RIP computer interface, the guitar will simply work without the need to think about two channels, turning on pickups manually, or even charging. All controls on the guitar and pickups will simply be on when the guitar is turned on. The guitar will remember exactly where you were when you turned the guitar off (or it turned off due to inactivity to save your battery life).

The software for how the Master Control Know (MCK) works has been refined making accessing tones and tuning presents much quicker, easier and more intuitive. You will wonder how you got along without access to these many many creative options on stage or in the studio. Guitar players should not need manuals.

YOU SHOULDN’T WORRY ABOUT CHARGING BATTERIES Les Paul never played a high impedance guitar because the signal would be impacted by many factors like cable quality and length changing precious tone. Les was the consummate musician, recording engineer and guitar designer and he was right.

Gibson has designed LP Impedance circuit (in honor and remembrance of Les Paul) we call LP-Z. This circuit exists at the output jack. There is an on/off switch turning on this circuit at the jack allowing the guitar to be used passively as it always has. When you turn the switch on, you are isolating the guitar and its tone from your gear and matching the impedance better to the gear you are using.

There will be an immediate improvement in fidelity that is almost shocking, not unlike seeing HD video compared to standard definition. This high definition audio, just like HD video, is still the same tone (picture) but much more intense and 3 dimensional.

LP-Z High Definition Impedance Circuit with Nuetrik ¼ inch stereo and XLR.

With the improvement of the electrical signal Gibson went one step further and added a locking Nuetrik connector that has not only the stereo ¼ inch output but also an XLR output. Thus you can use either standard guitar cables, stereo guitar cables, or XLR microphone cables which will allow you to plug directly into sound boards, etc. With microphone XLR cables, and the LP-Z circuit you can have very long cable runs without degrading your high definition sound. The Dusk Tiger comes with an updated RIP firewire computer interface. It continues to bring out every string on an independent channel, the traditional pickup signal and the piezo mono signal over a stereo quarter inch cable. It will no longer be used to charge your guitar, simplifying its use substantially.

The audio stream has been improved to achieve more fidelity and further increase head room (reduce noise floor).

Of course software always gets improved so the Dusk Tiger will come with the latest full version of Guitar Rig (substantially improved this year), and the Gibson version of Abelton Live recording software.

Newest Software Versions with Simpler Better Computer Interface Comes with a midi cable for use with Roland/Axon

There are a full years of presets for this software which are nothing short of spectacular work by this master musician and electronic music godfather.

Finally, Gibson is including a midi out cable as part of the package.

MORE ELECTRONIC INTEGRATION – SMALLER, MORE RELABLE, LESS POWER

'Addams' tuner creeps toward B'way Variety
They're creepy and they're kooky, mysterious and spooky. But get that song outta your head.

The creatives behind the $16.5 million tuner adaptation of "The Addams Family," playing an out-of-town tryout in Chicago ahead of a Broadway run that opens April 8, have set aside the property's familiar TV and movie incarnations to base the show on the series of single-panel Charles Addams cartoons in which the macabre clan originated.

In doing so, they have given themselves the formidable challenge of fulfilling an aud's expectations for an iconic title while at the same time working to create a story with a sense of discovery.

"There's a great identification, but also a great opportunity for surprise," says producer Stuart Oken. "Sometimes a brand has a story you have to work from. In this you have characters, but no necessary story."

The snappy Vic Mizzy ditty that was the theme song for the '60s TV show is heard for a few bars in the tuner's score as a winking nod to past "Addams" incarnations. But otherwise Oken, head of Chi-based Elephant Eye Theatrical and a former exec at Disney Theatrical, aims to forge a new sound and identity for the family.

The show's seemingly offbeat creative team includes composer Andrew Lippa ("A Little Princess"), book writers Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice ("Jersey Boys") and director-designers Phelim McDermott and Julian Crouch ("Shockheaded Peter").

Nathan Lane, Bebe Neuwirth, Jackie Hoffman and Kevin Chamberlin are among the thesps playing characters created in the New Yorker cartoons that ran from 1938 until Addams' death in 1988.

None of the dramatis personae had names until the development of the 1964-66 TV show prompted Addams to christen the family members, including father Gomez, mother Morticia and daughter Wednesday.

The TV skein reps a major factor in the property's high profile, although it was further boosted by two movies in the early 1990s helmed by Barry Sonnenfeld and starring Raul Julia, Anjelica Huston and Christina Ricci. "Addams" also has been adapted into a couple of animated series, several vidgames and a short-lived Fox Family channel redux of the TV show.

It's not surprising, then, that other Broadway producers besides Oken had come calling for rights to "Addams." After years of being divided among the cartoonist's three wives, the rights were consolidated in 2006 under the Tee and Charles Addams Foundation. Kevin Miserocchi, exec director of the foundation, says he spent a year interviewing potential producers.

"We wanted it done straight from the source material, and that was something Stuart was very keen on," he says. "The interest was sincere in sticking to Charlie's work and bringing it back to life in a different way."

Oken was the matchmaker for his creatives, tapping team members from varying legit backgrounds, with Brit director-designers McDermott and Crouch -- also known for their work on the Philip Glass opera "Satyagraha" at the Met -- on board to stage the musical from Lippa, Brickman and Elice. Basil Twist provides the show's flourishes of puppetry.

Although they are Broadway tyros, McDermott and Crouch seemed natural candidates for the gig based on the gleefully ghoulish tone of "Shockheaded Peter."

The musical's take on the Addams characters -- "The focus is the third word of the title," Elice notes -- was hammered out first by all the creatives together, before the writers and composer began their individual work.

"It was a helluva challenge," admits Brickman. "All you have is a bunch of cartoons. We had to start from scratch and evolve these full lives."

The plot centers on the familial repercussions when Wednesday, usually portrayed as a child but here a teenager (played by Krysta Rodriguez), falls in love with a "normal" young man. Uncle Fester (Chamberlin) serves as a sort of emcee.

"What kind of musical would Uncle Fester put on if Uncle Fester put on a musical?" he asks. (An old-fashioned, vaudeville affair, it turns out.) "Gomez, having Spanish origins, lives in a flamenco-inspired world. Wednesday's music has electric guitar and Morticia's has a leitmotif with a gypsy fiddle."

In Chicago, where "Addams Family" officially opens Dec. 10 and playsthrough Jan. 10, previews have gone as smoothly as can be expected; the work that remains will focus on trimming the running time.

Although Windy City critics don't weigh in for a couple of weeks, interest has been high from the start. Oken says he had managed to raise most of the show's capitalization costs before investors were able to see any of the creative product, and now sales in Chicago are said to be very strong.

Gothamites are looking forward to the show too. "Addams" is, at least for now, the closest thing to the new-tuner headliner of the season, since "Spider-Man, Turn off the Dark" has been delayed.

For it to remain the season's hot ticket, the group knows it has to deliver on aud expectations while providing elements that feel both unexpected and fitting for the property.

"You have to create surprises without breaking it," Crouch says.
