How do I install a Yamaha RX-V363BL Receiver?

I just bought a 46" Samsung LCD a blue ray player and a Yamaha RX-V363BL receiver. I want to know the best way to install this receiver to my TV and blue ray player. I tried using a HDMI cord running from my blue ray to the receiver and then from my receiver to my TV but this didn't work. When I did this I got a picture that had some kind of interference but no sound.

I found your receiver online and it looks like a bit of a joke. This thing doesn't support audio via HDMI and , from what you're saying, the video pass through is pretty shitty as well. Here's what you could do... Connect the BR player directly to the tv via HDMI. If you want stereo, you should run a digital cable (optical or coaxial) to the receiver.

Your TV should have a digital audio out. Try connecting that to the receiver and see if it will pass the blu ray's audio (Some tvs digital outs will pass audio from external devices and some won't).

just get an optical audio cable for the sound. and hook the blu-ray player up directly to the tv.

Why doesn't my logitech universal remote work now that I've hooked up a Yamaha RX V663 receiver?

The remote works to control all components until the receiver is turned on, then it ceases to work on the set-top box/DVR.

You have to go back to Harmonys site and re-enter the setup, so that all your gear is working properly and can reset the "macro" features so that everything will turn on with the push of one button.

It is a very easy setup and Harmony asks you important questions about your system so that it does run properly. But if you change one piece of gear, than the setup procedure has to be redone.

How much is a Yamaha RX-V492 sound stereo receiver?

My grandfather just gave me his old Yamaha RX-V492 (Sound stereo receiver) I don't know what year, but it's in great condition. Does anybody know about how much it's worth?

I believe that receiver is somewhere around 10 or 11 years old. I use to sell it when I was an A/V salesman. I think that was the last year Yamaha included the "V" (for video) in the name for its stereo receivers. It is somewhat the equivalent of the current RX 496 which has more current features. I have found, however, that the older Yamaha sometimes has better specifications (such as its damping factor). They often sacrificed quality from one year to another as they added features. I think the RX-V492 is conservatively rated at 75 watts per channel. For more info you can call Yamaha. A local Yamaha retailer can give you the number. Sadly, stereo receivers have lost much of their resale value these days since everyone is going to surround sound and the real serious 2 channel guys are buying the high end stuff. As an avid yardsaler I would expect to see a receiver like yours priced at about $20. Were it mine I would keep it though. You never know when it might be of use to you in some application and I'm sure it's still a great piece!

Probably not much.

Buy a nice pair of bookshelf speakers and use it.

What is the right Speaker conbination for a Yamaha RX-V863 Receiver 7.1?

I already have the following KLIPSCH Speakers: A Pair of F-3 Floorstanding; A Pair of S-2 Surround and One C-3 Center. What other Pair do I need to complete the System?

Yes, you would need another pair of S-2 surrounds.

Nice receiver by the way. I have the RX-V3800. Its a little more powerful, but for the price you cant beat the 863 in terms of features and quality.

Given your existing stock of speakers, another pair of S-2s sounds right. Theres a brand new pair going on eBay right now (2 days 2 hours left, as I write this) for $265.00, plus 33.99 US shipping.
If you don't get that pair, a pair can be bought from amazon.com for $380, with free US shipping. Best Buy's price is $419.98.
The eBay pair has a Buy It Now price, so its not a bidding process to get them. Thats the best deal.

I have a Yamaha Rx V1800 receiver SOUND SETTINGS?

I have this receiver with Mirage Nanosat speakers. When I watch a blu ray through ps3 on surr decode it goes to PCM. Is this the best audio setting? or what should it be on?

Yes, it is. PS3 converts HD audio formats into PCM and send it via HDMI to receiver. That's why you will never see DTS-HD MA or Dolby True HD on receiver window, but the sound you're hearing is HD.

Hi, I won a 6.1 Accuosound speaker system with rx-v361 yamaha receiver. This won't work together will it?

I have been told that the 6.1 speaker system will not work with the rx.v361 receiver as it is 5.1. Is this right? I am technically challenged.

It will work fine, you just won't be able to make use of the extra rear surround speaker.....if you ever upgrade later on to a receiver that supports 6.1 speakers you will have the speaker already.

Basicly just hook up the 2 fronts, 1 center, 2 surrounds and subwoofer to your receiver.

I have a yamaha receiver rx-v459 it runs the set up for all speaker but will only run 2 channel how do i fix?

it does a tone test through all cant get it to show or use center channel or surround hopefully some one can help

make sure the Effects is on. No effects selection, no surround or center

Yamaha RX-V2700 receiver goes straight to standby after power is turned on?

this all started today when it abruptly turned itself off, it wasn't hot and wasn't abusing it. I've done everything in the owners manual, somehow the protection circuitry is taking over and turning the unit to standby about .5 sec. after the power button is pushed. i've checked speaker impedance, wire connections/short circuits etc. Also tried a separate circuit, power cord, and surge protector. somebody help! i've got family coming over tomorrow to watch x-mas movies and get loaded on egg nogg!
just tried unplugging everything, the unit still turns on and immediately turns itself back off. any other ideas would be appreciated, as i can get into the advanced setup by holding down the effect button and arming the master power, under which scenario it will stay on; just won't do anything!!!

Disconnect all inputs and speakers. Does it still do it? Check for FM sound with headphones if you have them. If it's still acting up, sorry to say time for a trip to a service center....or Best Buy.

Yamaha RX-V663 Receiver Repair - Help?

I have a Dilemma. I have the opportunityof purchasing either of the following receivers. Both Are RX-V663 and both are broken:
Receiver #1:
Volume Control Functions Erratically - You never know where it will land
Receiver #2:
A Surround Channel is not working.

Which Would be the easier fix? I already have the Yamaha service manual in hand but would appreciate any help and guideance from an experienced professional!

You already have a service manual, so you are probably better equipped to answer than I am. One question I have, however, relates to the volume control problem. Is the problem only evident when using the manual volume know or is it also there when you control the volume by remote. If the problem is just in the volume knob, then I would guess that would be the easier fix. Simply replace the volume pot or ignore the problem and just use the remote.

Do yamaha RX-V557 AV receiver upconverts s-video to component progressive scan video?

Yes and no. The receiver has the ability to convert any incoming video signal to both component video and S video. However, it does not UPconvert an S video or composite video signal - it simply outputs the lower grade signal through a different set of outputs. Use the V Conv feature.

For example, access to the set-up functions is buried at the bottom of three or four pages of (admittedly pretty) source selection icons. The only feature you would not go into the menus for is source selection  - it’s achievable through direct keys on the remote and the fascia…so why have pages and pages of source select icons heading up the menu? When you are into the features and functions area, it’s laid out in a disjointed format with lots of unlinked individual pages rather than traditional left to right flowing menus. I had to refer to the manual on several occasions just to find various functions and that is not a good sign for the average user.

I’m not getting the new cosmetics either. It looks feels less solid that Yamaha’s previous receivers at this price. I also feel rather guilty about the years, decades even, I have spent denigrating Yamaha’s ‘orange’ front panel display – because the new look involves a me-too blue display showing precious little useful info and a few red legends. It could have been grafted off of any one of the sub-£300 receivers on the market, which for an upper mid-range model is poor show indeed.

Yamaha Network Receiver Control App for iPhone eCoustics.com (press release)
Yamaha Electronics Corporation introduced a free downloadable iPhone and iPod touch application that enables users to easily control the most-used functions of its network receivers (available inputs, volume levels, mute and power commands) from anywhere in or around their homes. The app, which can be downloaded from iTunes. It can be used with the recently introduced Yamaha RX-V2065 receiver as well as the RX-Z7 and RX-V3900 models.

Depending on the network receiver model with which it is being used, the new app can simultaneously control audio in up to four zones in and around the house. For instance, users can set up their multi-zone system to enjoy a Blu-ray movie in the living room, satellite radio in the bedroom and HD Radio in the back yard. To power up any zone, users selects the room or zone on the app interface and press the corresponding power button. The selected zone is now active, giving the user control of volume level and input source selection.

Once downloaded, it is easy to set up the iPhone/iPod touch app. Users need only to have the IP address from their network receiver and make sure their iPhone/iPod touch is configured to the same local area network as their receiver. The app identifies the receiver and lists its model number to denote the connection. Once quick setting adjustments are complete, the user presses the control button to make the app fully functional.
