i have a pioneer plasma, pioneer elite receiver &rogers digital box, but no sound... help?

sorry, also using 2 hdmi cables - one from rogers box to receiver, other from tv to receiver.
not sure how to reply. forgive me, totally not my thing - it's my boyfriend's system. watched movie last night & all worked. getting sound from amp, but not when i select the HDMI 1, which we set up as the rogers box.

Well, I'll assume you are missing sound on the RECIEVER....

If this is a NEW setup, I have found the Audio settings on the Rogers box to be set for RAW and Not PCM audio....that can kill sound...it must be PCM.

I doubt your cable can just break the Audio + and - lines only....but since you have 2 HDMI, try swapping cables....

The other obvious stuff to try is the speaker ON/OFF...the proper video inputs are active....That you are in dolby surround mode....

Other than that, does the relays click on in your reciever? Can you get AM/FM radio? That would at least verify if the Amp is OK and hasn't blown an output....

Moved the speakers recently? They may have a short on one of the wire ends....

I just got a pioneer elite vsx 94 receiver and it will not output any video on component, HDMI seems ok, ideas

go under the system menu and select component for out put on your sources and you shoudl be okay, just so you are aware there has been a recall on some 94 recievers for haveing white lines come acroos the video.

Often times, hooking up HDMI disables component on sources. I am not sure of the rules for receivers.

Most receivers only output on 1 type of output, not several. If I am reading the website correctly, I suspect it will convert component inputs to HDMI outputs.

If not, try disconnecting the HDMI cable and using the receiver menu, change the Monitor output to Component.

Anyone tried or seen a review of the Pioneer VSX-82TXS?

It's one of a new series of Pioneer Elite receivers announced in June. A web search turned up only Engadget posts about the press releases and a forum post or two. Would love to read some reviews.

Yeah, it's so new that no one has even had a chance to get it broken in for a critical review as of yet.

Chances are that for $1,200, you'll be hard pressed to find a better sounding, functioning top-shelf A/V receiver with so many features.

If I were looking for a $1,200 receiver (maybe even up to $2,000), this model would be on my short list -along with the Outlaw 1070 (although it doesn't have the Pioneer's HDMI)- as a top performer to audition.

TRY CONSUMER REPORTS.COM THEY MAY HAVE IT THERE FOR U...

go to www.avsforum.com and in the amp/receiver&proccesor area to see people writhing their experience with the 84 & 82tsx as well other brands and subjects.

What brand of audio/video receiver should I buy, Pioneer Elite, Yamaha, Denon, or Onkyo?

pioneer and yamaha are good, but both are very expensive. I think just buy the one you can afford.

Bose Acoustimass 10, Pioneer Elite VSX-9* Receiver, DVD player, Sony HDTV Rear Projection?

Ok, I have a 60" Sony HDTV Rear Projection I think the KDS series. I have a Pioneer Elite VSX-9* series receiver since my house is wired for surround round and speakers throughout and this receiver I thought was good for multi-room control. My DVD player is just a standard upconvert Toshiba and it's hooked up via an HDMI cable. I'm pretty sure I know how to hook up the Bose to the receiver since it's all just plug-n-play but i'll figure it out. These Bose speakers will be ceiling mounted via Bose brackets and the walls are already pre-wired with the little wall plate that i can use the banana plugs to attach the wiring.

My question is what is the most efficient way to hook this up together (DVD HDMI to receiver, etc.)? I'm sure I don't know what I'm doing (Bose haters don't comment please, lol) to put together the best setup but now you know what I'm working with. Thanks for any advice.

Okay, no comments on the BOSE speakers from me.
;-)

But the 9* series from Pioneer all support audio through HDMI, so you should go from your DVD to receiver, from your cable box to receiver, then let your receiver switch the video for you.

The VSX-92TX has three HDMI inputs, so you can add a DVD player, Blu-ray Player and HD receiver all to the receiver and assign the digital inputs.

The VSX-94 has 4 in and the 91 has 2 in.

If you go through the TV first and then to the receiver, chances are you will not be able to select the dts tracks on your DVD's, which are ususally the better audio option.

HDMI from DVD to TV, optical or coaxial cable from DVD to receiver. You can' t use HDMI to get sound if your audio sources is not compatible ( sending audio via HDMI to receiver ).

How do I fix my Pioneer A/V receiver's MCACC?

I just bought a Pioneer Elite VSX-90TXV, and every time I try to do the Auto MCACC acoustic calibration, the system says "Error SB" every time after it runs through the tones. Has this happened to anybody else? Does anybody know how to fix it?

that means error surround back check to make sure there isnt a short in your surround back wires or if you dont have surround backs then go into manual setup and turn them off then run mcacc.

Is there a big difference between sound quality with bose ls28 and a Yamaha 7.1 Receiver (mid to top of line)?

Bose lifestyle series vs. Yamaha-Pioneer Elite- Receivers, etc.

No comparison as the Yamaha receiver with a good set of speakers will SMOKE a Bose system for audio quality.

Bose is at a disadvantage in that they design from a form factor vs. form following function.

Your Bose system will cost $2000 anywhere as they fix their prices.

A $2000 budget will get you the following for a system:

http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?search=yamaha+receiver&i=022RXV861

http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?showAll=N&g=12700&i=108TSS12HC&c=4&tp=184&avf=N

These are both subjective and should be compared. You will find that almost always a system the same price as bose offers much more flexability allows for easier replacment or repair, works better with most other AV products.

Shop around you may get a better system for less.

for a pioneer plasma elite tv....?

do i have to have the receiver that is supposed to come with it or can i have one that you can get a best buy or somewhere.. i want to hook it up to the cable but i cant because i dont have the reciever.. i have checked with the cable company and they said i have to have a dvi receiver or something like that and i was just wondering if someone could help me out.. i have checked electronic stores for dvi receivers but no luck.. can anyone tell me what will work with this pioneer plasma elite tv.. where can i get a receiver or something...

Pioneer Elite.

xbox AV to receiver then to projection tv = no color. what gives?

just bought a new Pioneer Elite receiver, and i hooked up all the components to it (both audio and video). everything works fine, but we are getting a week signal with the xbox. the audio is fine but im getting only a fuzzy black and white pic. when i reroute the xbox video to the TV or Sat box its all good. cant seem to find any menu options on the xbox or receiver to correct it. any ideas?

It sounds like the cable is going bad. I had the same problem. If you wiggle the part that connects to the console and the color comes back, then you're going to need a new AV cable.

I have a Dvd recorder that does not have hdmi out but has component out. I want to be able to watch in 1080p.?

If i purchase a receiver (maybe pioneer elite) with upconversion ability, will the signal going to the TV via hdmi become 1080p. Sorry not audiophile guy and need some basic info.

(Assuming it is able to do 1080P.) Probably not. Few component cables can do full 1080p. There are some out there, just not many. I am a little confused however. Is the dvd player hooked up to the reciever? If you have to plug the player into the reciever via component cables, then you have to plug the reciever into the TV via component to use the dvd source.

CMass Division 1 Super Bowl: Marlborough pursues perfection MetroWest Daily News

When Marlborough's football team takes the field this afternoon at Worcester State College (4 p.m.), it will attempt to complete a perfect season with a CMass Division 1 Super Bowl title.

The third-seeded Panthers (12-0) will be looking for their first Super Bowl title since 1979 when they battle No. 2 St. John's (10-2) in a highly anticipated contest.

For 22 Marlborough seniors, this is a game they've been aiming toward for four years.

"The kids are positive and excited about the opportunity," Marlborough head coach Sean Mahoney said. "The seniors are ready. They have worked hard for this."

St. John's has more recent title game experience. In 2006, the Pioneers defeated Minnechaug 20-14 in overtime for the Div. 1AA Central/Western Mass. championship.

"Obviously, we are thrilled to be back (in the Super Bowl)," said St. John's coach John Andreoli. "We've worked hard. The seniors were freshman the last time we were here. And they have aspired to get back."

Marlborough and St. John's come into the game touting highly explosive offenses. They are also similar offenses as both operate out of a spread formation and each attack is engineered by a dual-threat senior quarterback.

Marlborough's A.J. Scerra has thrown for over 1,000 yards and 10 TDs while rushing for 588 yards and five TDs. St. John's counters with one of the area's elite signal callers in Griffin Murphy. The senior threw for over 1,800 yards and 27 touchdowns in the regular season, while adding 584 yards and six scores on the ground.

"(Murphy) can run and throw the ball," said Andreoli. "When he gets into space he can pull it and go as fast as anyone."

Both teams also feature special players at the running back and receiver positions. Marlborough has been led all season by senior running back A.C. Carter, who enters today's game with 25 touchdowns (23 rushing) and 1,300 yards rushing. He is also the team's leading receiver, but is not the only playmaker.

Evan Purvis has scored eight touchdowns this fall and scored in a multitude of ways. Purvis has found the end zone on a reception, a rush, a kickoff return and a punt return. Junior Adam Scerra has four touchdowns and Tyler Redding has emerged as a serious threat.

"On offense we have to be effective," said Mahoney. "We have to keep the ball moving with first downs and get a few big plays."

While Marlborough has relied mostly on hitting for long gains, it grinded out a 21-7 win Tuesday over Nashoba.

"I was encouraged that we didn't have big plays and still were able to win the game," he said. "The (offensive) line has been underrated all year. If we have to 3- and 4-(yard) someone to death we have the capability to do that. It's nice to get 60- or 70-yard plays, but if we have to get first downs we're are able to do it."

Murphy also has an array of targets to chose from, though none are as big as 6-foot-4, 235-pound wideout Richard Rodgers, who has already received offers from Division I colleges. Marlborough will look to mix up its coverage on Rodgers, but still has to be mindful of the other Pioneers at the skill positions.

"We (have a) well-balanced running and passing attack," said Andreoli. "We can put our slot and our wideouts in different positions and that can present matchup problems."

Marlborough's gameplan on defense is to contain the explosive Pioneer attack.

"The key is to not give up too many big plays," Mahoney said. "We have been a 'bend but don't break' defense all year. Hopefully we can come up with some big plays."

The St. John's defense also faces a tough task. Andreoli is looking for a big game from defensive ends Dan Light and Rodgers. He said his Pioneers also need to limit the amount of big plays.

"They have very athletic kids," Andreoli said. "They have six or seven game-changers. They play well in space. They are fast and physical. They are every bit as good as their 12-0 record shows. We have to be disciplined in our defensive schemes."

With Marlborough shooting for a perfect season, the team has garnered a ton of support from the school and the community. The 1979 team was scheduled to have a reunion in Houston this weekend, but changed its plan when the Panthers advanced to the Super Bowl. Instead they will get together in Marlborough and cheer on the Panthers today at Worcester State.

"It's a great challenge for us," said Mahoney. "All year we have faced challenges. And, all year we have stepped up to the challenge."

Minnesota Vikings' Antoine Winfield expects to play, but . . . Pioneer Press

Minnesota Vikings cornerback Antoine Winfield said he believes he will play Sunday against Cincinnati.

Winfield said today it will be a game-time decision whether he will play after recovering from a right foot injury.

Winfield is officially listed as questionable on the injury report, but he's encouraged by the way he felt this week in practice with no setbacks.

"I think this is the week I finally get back out there and get to get some action," Winfield said. "So we'll see how the (pregame) warmups go on Sunday, and hopefully I'm up (activated)."

Winfield originally was expected to miss about four to six weeks following a fracture he suffered Oct. 18 against Baltimore. But it's been almost two months since he was injured.

He suffered a setback in practice Nov. 27, which delayed his return.

"It's definitely frustrating," Winfield said. "It's a good thing that we're winning. Our record is 10-2; we're fighting for that position to get into the playoffs. Right now we're the No. 2 seed, trying to keep that so we keep that bye. The main thing is trying to get a win against Cincinnati."

Cincinnati receiver Chad Ochocinco said earlier this week that he will be angry if Winfield can't play. Ochocinco wants to compete against an elite player, and Winfield feels the same.

"He's a great receiver, been putting up numbers ever since he came into the league," Winfield said. "He's Carson Palmer's go-to guy, so he'll definitely see the ball. The

Charley Walters: Twins greats Paul Molitor, Joe Mauer talk shop Pioneer Press

Baseball hall of famer Paul Molitor, a 1974 Cretin High School grad and the most valuable player of the 1993 World Series while playing for Toronto, and Joe Mauer, a 2001 Cretin-Derham Hall grad who this week was named American League MVP, were sitting together the other day on a flight to Scottsdale, Ariz., to play in Harmon Killebrew's charity golf tournament.

"Put it this way, there were a lot of people on that flight wishing they were in my seat," Molitor said.

Molitor and Mauer didn't chat about Mauer.

"He wanted to talk a lot more about the games that slipped away than anything that he might have done," Molitor said. "That was typical Joe."

Molitor, 53, finished his 21-year major league career with 3,319 hits.

"And no MVPs," he said with a laugh.

Molitor described Mauer's feats, starting with his being drafted No. 1 over pitcher Mark Prior in 2001, as "somewhat unfathomable.

"Overcoming some of the stigma that came with the controversial draft pick to being created into this hometown hero and a face of the franchise for a team that you follow, to perform at the level he has so far, three batting titles and now the MVP, I don't really know how to describe that," he said.

What is also somewhat unfathomable is that one St. Paul high school in the Minnesota climate has produced two major league baseball players the caliber of Molitor and Mauer.

"I don't know really where that comes from, but it's a proud thing for me," Molitor said. "When people ask me about Joe Mauer, I say, 'we went to the same high school.' It's nice to have that in common with a young man like that."

The Vikings' Tarvaris Jackson and Sidney Rice are spending Thanksgiving deep-frying a turkey for the first time, Rice said.

"We'll have to remember to let it thaw out and be careful not to start a fire with the peanut oil," Rice said with a laugh.

Meanwhile, Visanthe Shiancoe plans to crash several Thanksgiving dinners at teammates' homes. Jim Kleinsasser is No. 1 on his list, but Kleinsasser said he already warned Shiancoe that if he comes to his house, he'll be gone.

Shiancoe said he would visit Brett Favre for some trimmings if he knew his address.

Holy Angels grad Larry Fitzgerald Jr., 26, needs just three catches for the Arizona Cardinals at Tennessee on Sunday to become the quickest in NFL history to reach 500 receptions.

Timberwolves top draft pick Ricky Rubio and his undefeated Regal FC Barcelona team play undefeated Montepaschi Siena on Saturday afternoon on NBA TV. Rubio has had at least one steal in each of his past 14 Euroleague appearances and has made all of his 14 free throws.

The University of St. Thomas , which plays host to Coe College of Iowa on Saturday in a NCAA Division III football playoff game, has its own version of the Vikings' Percy Harvin in explosive wide receiver-kick returner Fritz Waldvogel , a sophomore from St. Thomas Academy. Coe, by the way, is the team that ended St. John's season last Saturday.

Chris Knoff, son of former Vikings defensive back Kurt Knoff , is a starting linebacker for the Eden Prairie team that plays Cretin-Derham Hall on Friday night for the state large-school football championship at the Metrodome.

The Gophers men's hockey team leads the nation in attendance, averaging 10,777 spectators, counting home and away games.

Nominees on the Twins ' 2010 Hall of Fame ballot: Dave Boswell , Tom Brunansky , John Castino , Dean Chance , Marty Cordova , Greg Gagne , Dan Gladden , Dave Goltz , Mudcat Grant , Brian Harper , Larry Hisle , Chuck Knoblauch , Camilo Pascual , Jim Perry , Jeff Reardon , Roy Smalley , Kevin Tapani , Cesar Tovar and Al Worthington .

Former Gophers Outland Trophy winner Greg Eslinger is moving to the Twin Cities as a medical joint replacement salesman. Eslinger is married with two sons.

Klay Thompson, a 6-foot-6, 200-pound son of former Gophers and Lakers star Mychal Thompson and a sophomore at Washington State, was named the Pacific-10 Conference basketball player of the week after averaging 30.5 points in victories over Eastern Washington and Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne.

The Colorado women's basketball team the Gophers defeated Sunday at Williams Arena had players whose names are Brittany Spears and Whitney Houston .

DON'T PRINT THAT

A little birdie says Michigan State is quietly lobbying for a berth in the Insight Bowl on Dec. 31 in Tempe, Ariz. If the Spartans receive it, the Gophers could end up in the Alamo Bowl on Jan. 2 in San Antonio. Minnesota, though, still could end up with an invitation to the Insight Bowl.

The only other athlete honored by dropping the ceremonial first puck at a Wild game, as Twin Joe Mauer did Wednesday night, was late Twin Kirby Puckett . Fellow Twins MVP Justin Morneau made the "Let's Play Hockey" call Wednesday night. Both received thunderous ovations. For the puck drop, Breck High School grad Blake Wheeler represented the Bruins.

Probably because of Thanksgiving weekend, tickets for Friday's 1 p.m. game against surprising Colorado at the X have been among the most sought to see the Wild this season.

Alex Rodriguez left the Texas Rangers in 2004 for the New York Yankees to win a World Series, but it took five seasons to do it.

When the Wild moved Benoit Pouliot to Montreal for Guillaume Latendresse this week, it was the first time the team traded one of its former first-round draft picks. The deal was one of just three trades in the NHL this season.

OVERHEARD

Baseball hall of famer and Cretin grad Paul Molitor , asked about Cretin-Derham Hall grad Joe Mauer's prospects for the Hall of Fame: "He's certainly on course to be among the elite in the history of the game, and we just hope for good health. I don't think performance will be a factor as long as he can stay on the field. I'm not saying I have worries about that, but that's the nature of sports."
