A Merkel resident called the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office Thursday to report that a neighbor has buried two mobile homes and possibly some propane tanks in her backyard on Mulberry Road.
The neighbor denied burying the objects on her property but said they’d been told that a contractor had been hired “to clean up the backyard.” The Sheriff’s office advised the caller to contact the county’s environmental officer for further assistance.

A woman walked into her living room about 4 a.m. to find an unknown male standing next her television. She yelled at the suspect, who ran out without any property.
n Forgery, Taco Bell at 2900 block of South 14th Street, Saturday
A fake $10 bill was used to buy food.
n Forgery, 4100 block of Ridgemont, Saturday
A person tried to pay with a counterfeit bill at a convenience store. Clerks saved the bill and called police.
n Criminal mischief, 6300 block of Buffalo Gap Road, Saturday
A known suspect hit a car with paint balls.
n Vehicle burglary, 2600 block of Old Anson Road, Sunday
A GPS unit was stolen from a locked car.
n Forced entry and burglary of a residence, 2100 block of Russell Avenue, Sunday
A woman returned from holidays out of town to find her desktop computer missing.

Someone pried open the doors of a trailer and stole saddles and tack.

A burglar removed an air conditioning unit to enter the home and steal a 72-inch television.
n Theft, Best Buy at 4310 Buffalo Gap Rd., Friday
A person leaving set off the door alarm. Security discovered an iPod Touch stuffed in her pants and that her name is on the mall’s criminal trespassing list.
Taylor County Sheriff’s report
11/25 1:11 p.m. — Grass fire reported at N.E. 1st & Birch Streets in Trent. Trent Volunteer Fire Department responded and put out the fire in approximately one hour.
11/25 4:38 p.m. — Calling party stated a Catepillar steel loader had been stolen from a shed on County Road 405 in Merkel. Loader was last seen in September and is valued at approximately $44,000. Report taken for theft.
11/26 12:58 p.m. — Report of a grass fire on Brick Road in North Abilene. Jones County and Hawley Volunteer Fire Department notified.
11/27 7:04 a.m. — Fire reported in a garage on Bar-B-Trail on Highway 83/84. Buffalo Gap, Potosi and Abilene Fire Department notified. Fire was in the residence’s chimney and was extinguished approximately 20 minutes later.
11/27 8:24 a.m. — Disturbance reported at a residence on Wimberly Road. Female caller said she and a male resident shoved one another the previous night. She now wants to get her property and return to another state. Neither party was injured or wants to file charges. Male subject left so that female could gather her belongings.
11/27 8:44 a.m. — Calling party states estranged husband has been making threats over the phone and may be at or en route to her residence in Buffalo Gap. Officers checked the area but did not locate the subject. Officers made contact with the husband via phone. He was uncooperative. Caller left the residence for the night.
11/27 1:46 p.m. — Resident on County Road 646 reported hearing gunshots and that bullets are going over their house. Officers contacted four subjects at a neighbor’s house, who admitted to firing a gun earlier. They were advised of the liability involved and that they needed to find a safer area for shooting the weapon.
11/28 6:43 a.m. — Caller in Buffalo Gap reported seeing a suspicious vehicle parked at the intersection of Dan Moody & Maxwell. Stated the driver sits in it with the lights on in the early morning and at dusk. Also said the vehicle followed someone from there to Abilene Regional Medical Center recently. Caller believes this has been going on for approximately one month. Closer patrol of the area during these hours requested.
11/28 7:48 a.m. — Car fire reported on Key Lane at Potosi. No structures were involved, but the car was a total loss. Buffalo Gap & Potosi Fire Departments responded.
11/28 2:30 p.m. — Burglary of a building reported on FM 2404. Victim stated a utility trailer, tools and a riding lawnmower were taken from a shed at a residence.
11/28 4:40 p.m. — Officer contacted by a citizen on Baize Road, reporting that a juvenile was shooting a BB gun at birds. Officer contacted juveniles who were safely shooting at the time but advised them to return to their yard and make sure they didn’t fire in the direction of people or homes.
11/28 4:42 p.m. — Calling party stated his truck was tagged as abandoned behind the Firestone store at South 1st & Pioneer. Stated the store manager had given him permission to park there. The orange tag supposedly didn’t name a law enforcement agency. Both APD and DPS were also contacted, but had no record of a tag being placed on that vehicle. Caller was advised to notify law enforcement if any more tags were placed on the vehicle.
11/28 6:02 p.m. — Report of shots fired behind a residence on FM 1235. Wants officer to make sure they are shooting in a safe manner. Officer reported hearing a shotgun being fired in the area earlier but was unable to locate anyone shooting now.
11/28 10:57 p.m. — Subjects on neighboring property are firing a gun rapidly on County Road 618. Property owner, who was contacted by phone, stated his son was varmint hunting. The son called back and said he was through for the evening.
11/29 8:50 a.m. — Burglary in-progress reported on Elmdale Road. Caller stated someone is attempting to break into a neighbor’s house. Officers contacted a female, who believed her husband was inside the residence with another woman. The wife was given a criminal trespass warning and agreed to leave the residence.
11/29 3:49 p.m. — Calling party asked that an officer check on people at a residence on County Road 695 because a female resident is afraid that her husband will lock her out if she leaves. Caller said the husband has been drinking and “tends to get violent when he drinks and smokes pot.” Officers contacted both parties. Both stated the dispute was verbal only, and that they would stay away from each other.
11/29 11:10 a.m. — Grass fire reported on Cardinal Lane at Potosi. Exhaust on a lawnmower set the fire. Potosi Volunteer Fire Department responded and put out the fire in approximately 30 minutes.
